Art Moves 2019 – International Billboard Art Competition

Deadline: 23 July 2019

Joanna Górska and Rafał Góralski founded the artist group Galeria Rusz in the Polish city of Toruń, and in 1999 they opened a gallery for posters. Since 2008, they have been organising the Art Moves International Festival of Art on Billboards every year and in this context have announced a competition for poster art.

The basic idea behind Galeria Rusz is to transform the advertising poster – the symbol of modern consumer society – into a medium of reflection. This year’s competition theme is “An impending disaster or a chance to save yourself and the world?” – taking up the situation in the world today and the current media discourse about it. Surrounded by questions about the end of the world, the extinction of species, the threat of extreme poverty and prolonged wars, the flood of information threatens to paralyse us with such frightening scenarios. So as not to capitulate to the problems of the world, the competition seeks creative solutions to find ways out of pessimism and apathy.

Participants are allowed to submit up to three works, which should have a format of 498 cm by 243 cm. Submissions should be made by e-mail to artmoves@tlen.pl. You can find more detailed information on the submission conditions here. Participation is free of charge, the main prize is endowed with the equivalent of 1170 euros.
